What We Thought Was Possible

On the other side of what we think is possible, is ... everything

I was at a retreat this past weekend with a group of men - and someone who is not a man (even though their body looks like a man’s body). That person told me, “I never felt like a boy, or a man. And I never felt like a girl or a woman either. Along the way, I found a way to be just who I am, within myself. And then other people came along who were like me, and that gave me more courage to keep exploring my selfhood.” I have so much respect for my new friend - and for anyone who’s willing to move past what is we think is possible.

We are given instructions for life. Those instructions tell us how to dress, how to think, how to speak, how to behave, what to want, what we can desire, what’s “normal” and what’s “wrong.”

And then … those instructions will become too small. Always.

I love the moment in the movie Spinal Tap in which lead guitarist Nigel shows the filmmaker that his amplifiers are louder than anyone else’s - because, while everyone else’s amps go up to ten, his “go to eleven.” Does it make his guitar louder? He believes it does - and he’s happy!

We are the makers of our reality. I promise you, we have no idea how powerful we are. What has happened in our lives so far has been shaped by what we thought was possible.

What can happen from here depends on whether we’re willing to expand what we thought was possible.

I’m ready to help you do some expanding!
